Let’s now stop being so damned respectful!
I’m all for respect and above all understanding of other peoples values, beliefs, etc. In fact, it’s what I want my life to be dedicated to helping promote. I do not think I am a anti-theist like many atheists are. BUT, religion to me has fallen into a dangerous position of being something people shy away from giving proper, and at times the only proper kind is merciless, criticism. It deserves to be repeatedly questioned and argued and beat into the ground perhaps more so than anything else because it is what.people.live.their.lives.by more than anything else.
We need to stop being so afraid of being disrespectful or intolerant that we are ignorant and blinded and quiet about things that matter, and look hatefully on those that care enough to challenge and debate someone’s beliefs? Beliefs, values, and philosophies should never be allowed to rest on solid ground or else they lose all integrity.
They should be in constant shift, constantly explored, reexamined and maybe most importantly reaffirmed. You can’t do that if you think it’s right to sit on your hands and bite your tongue out of fear of offense and some misplaced hallowed ground on which you’ve placed the influx, subjective, bias positions of mankind’s various and colorful views on the world we live in. They are important. Important things don’t get shut away, ignored and given no discussion or criticism.
